About Tana Tours
Tana Tours is the culmination of passionate experiences and lessons learned through travel by Cape Town based photography teacher, travel and fine art photographer, Paul Sutton, whose love of photography is second only to his love of exploration and authentic travel experiences.

Paul’s career as a began as a photographer working at a postcard company, and involved touring the Western Cape Province of South Africa to photograph the landscapes, natural fauna & flora, and various other tourism-based businesses and experiences, such as hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and attractions. In addition to postcards he was also highly involved in the creation of calendars and most noteworthily, the book Townships & the Spirit of Ubuntu, which was written by Mike Telschow, and which he illustrated. The book focused on life and culture in the informal settlements of Cape Town.

Like many photographers, Paul’s career saw him playing numerous roles which saw him photographing weddings, portraiture, product photography, sport, fashion, and a variety of other topics too. In 2006, Paul founded his own small business, Digital Memories, sharing his knowledge and passion by teaching photography courses and running photography workshops, and bringing the joy of photography to hundreds of students.

It was while on assignment to the Indian Ocean islands of Reunion and Madagascar, and after writing the book, Portraits of Madagascar, in which he describes and portrays the deep emotional changes that meetings between people of different cultures and socio-economic backgrounds can have on one another, that Paul began to shift his mindset towards a line of work which was less involved with simple reportage, and whose function was to create actual first-hand experiences by facilitating expertly-guided journies, and offering meaningful, inspiring, and sometimes life-changing events for both travellers and locals alike.

Tana Tours’ aim is to create peaceful, insightful journies for travelers to engage with new and diverse people’s, cultures, wildlife and all other elements of the natural world, and to allow guests to discover within themselves, the immense beauty in each experience and encounter.

Additionally, Tana Tours endeavors to also serve the communities in which it works, by promoting tourism and facilitation communication and connectedness, between members of such communities and their visitors. Particularly, it strives to benefit communities in South Africa and Madagascar, by financing and implementing programmes which offer, joy, technological solutions, and educational opportunities to those who most need them. The Green Suitcase Project is an example of just such an initiative inspired and driven by Tana Tours.

Uniquely, Tana Tours recognised the importance and power of online media, and employs a full-time media department to document and share the work it does in tourism not only to promote and advertise the day-to-day offerings of the business, but to draw much-needed attention to ongoing community-upliftment projects, in order to create awareness and involvement in these needs.
